VINTAGE SELMER MARK VI Tenor Saxophone Original Lacquer Sax
There is no way around it, with Selmer Mark Vl saxophones, you get what you pay for. If you buy a needy Mark for a cheap price, you buy an expensive headache. Repairs on Selmer's by a top tech are "through the roof"...very expensive. If you want a fine Mark Vl, be prepared to spend between $7,500 to $12,000. There are really no good quality "cheap" Selmer Mark Vl tenors with a serial number below 150,000, original lacquer (very important), matching serial numbers on neck and body, and an original good condition tri-pack case.
This one is the "real deal." This Mark Vl tenor saxophone, serial number 137,XXX (a highly desired number), was professionally owned and played by NYC studio musician and club date jazz artist Stan Auld. This Mark is a great condition original lacquer (99% intact), No dents or dings (never had any major or minor repairs), recent high end re-pad with pro resonators, custom French engraving, matching serial numbers on neck and body, Good condition original Selmer tri-pack case, and set up/test played by award winning tech, Russ Ackerman. Russ has been named as one of America's top five vintage saxophone techs, by the Sax Gourmet newsletter (see the great one in photo #1 working on this Mark). Russ reports on this Selmer Mark Vl tenor saxophone; "This is the way a Mark Vl should be...excellent condition...fine re-pad job...plays with ease all the way up and down all registers...sounds like a 747 going overhead...one of the most sought after numbers...fine instrument..this baby is 'gig ready'... it's a keeper." I couldn't agree more this one is the "real deal."
